Born in Bologna 1973, Maurizio Sciarretta graduated from the “G. B. Martini” Conservatory of his city. At the same time he attended the violin specialization course at the Fiesole School of Music. Maurizio Sciarretta attended numerous lessons and masterclasses with eminent masters such as Franco Gulli, Enzo Porta, Cristiano Rossi, Zakhar Bron, Eugène Sarbu, Viktor Tretiakov, Pavel Vernikov and Thomas Brandis. From 1999 to 2001, following a selection competition, he was part of the “Walter Stauffer” High School of Cremona under the guidance of Maestro Salvatore Accardo. 2002 Maurizio Sciarretta won the First Prize and the “Paolo Borciani” special prize for the best performance of the Sonata for violin and piano at the “Michelangelo Abbado” International Violin Competition in Milan. The violinist combines his activity as a soloist with that of a chamber music performer, holding numerous concerts in duo with piano and in various other chamber ensembles. He formed a stable duo with the virtuoso Czech violist Jitka Hosprová, performing in numerous concerts in Italy and abroad. Maurizio Sciarretta was awarded the Nettuno d’oro prize for the artistic qualities demonstrated as the best Bolognese artist of the year. Radio Rai Tre dedicated a very important space to him in the program “La Stanza della Musica”.
Since 2005 Maurizio Sciarretta teaches at the famous International Academy “Incontri con il Maestro” in Imola and since 2007 at the State Conservatory of Music in Rimini. Since 2013 Maurizio Sciarretta has been an assistant professor of Maestro Zakhar Bron at the “Zakhar Bron Akademie” in Interlaken, Switzerland and has supported Maestro Bron in numerous Masterclasses in Italy and abroad, including: Accademia Chigiana of Siena, “Sommer Akademie Mozarteum” of Salzburg, Beijing State Conservatory, “String Masterclass” in Zuhai, China.
Maurizio Sciarretta is regularly invited as a member of the jury at important national and international competitions such as: City of Vittorio Veneto, Wieniawsky-Lipinsky in Lublin, Boris Goldstein International Violin Competition in Bern, and many others. Maurizio Sciarretta has been a founding member and artistic director of the Rimini Classica Cultural Association since 2013.
